The Touch of a Grand Piano
The new CN Series’ class-leading Responsive Hammer III keyboard action recreates the supreme touch of an acoustic grand piano, with its realistic movement and rigid, springless design providing a smooth and natural piano playing experience. The instruments’ triple-sensor key detection system enhances responsiveness and accuracy, while structural reinforcements throughout the action assembly help to minimise noise and key wobble during staccato and fortissimo passages.
The weight of the keyboard is appropriately graded to mirror the heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers of an acoustic piano, while let-off simulation recreates the subtle ‘notch’ sensation felt when softly playing the keys of a grand piano. These important characteristics allow discerning pianists to practise their expanding repertoire with confidence, and ensure that there are no unpleasant surprises when called upon to perform using the finest acoustic grand pianos.
The CN39 features over 300 different sounds including pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings, harpsichord and more. This is perhaps a benchmark when stepping up from the lesser models and the buttons make the instrument so much easier to navigate. The fantastic piano sound of the CN39 is what sets it above its competitors. Kawai are a specialist piano manufacturer and their highest priority is how the instrument feels and sounds like a piano. Most people buy digital pianos as an alternative to a real acoustic piano and so want the instrument to be as close to the real thing as possible. This is where Kawai digital pianos really stand out.
Q: What is so good about the Kawai CN35 over other digital piano models?
A: The CN35 has a very full rich sound compared to similar models but the most defining point about this model is the navigation. The CN35 features easy-to-use buttons to navigate between the instruments and various functions. For example there is a 'Piano' button and a 'Strings' button - this makes it extremely easy to find your way around the instrument. It also features an LCD display showing exactly which instrument you have selected. Most other digital pianos are much harder to navigate as the sound selection is operated through various keys. With the easy use of the CN35 it is particularly suited to both young children and older pianists who could find it confusing without these buttons.
Q: How far will the Kawai CN35 take my children with their piano lessons?
A: This is always a difficult question to answer. The honest answer is that practially any piano (or indeed, digital piano) can see you through your grades up to Grade 8, but some will be far more rewarding than others. We would normally advise that anything after Grade 5 would be best suited to a real, acoustic piano. Or, failing that, a digital piano with wooden keys and hammers. It's a bit like driving a car - any car you drive will get you from A to B, but some are far more rewarding than others and that is the way to think about it in terms of playing the piano. Obviously, with a better acoustic piano you will develop far better techniques and have more control of the instrument.
Q: Most digital pianos now have recording capabilities, is this something I would use?
A: Recording is quite a useful tool when learning a new piece of music. The Kawai CN35 allows you to record your playing and then play it back as well as playing along with it. So for example, you could record the left hand part of your new piece and then practice the right hand part alongside the playback of the left hand. You can now go one step further with this feature now and save all your recordings to an external USB stick so they can be played back on a computer or iPod etc.
Q: How difficult is it to take a Kawai CN35 upstairs?
A: The piano weighs around 73kg when fully assembled so just be sure there are 2 people carrying the piano. It shouldn't be too different from taking a large piece of furniture upstairs. There are no problems with having a digital piano upstairs in a bedroom or study. We do offer delivery services to our local customers.
