The Kawai CA501 is a mid-range digital piano which offers high-end sounds & features, including the beautiful new Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Competition Grand piano voice, Bluetooth MIDI + Audio connectivity for the best integration with apps on your smart device, and most importantly, a graded wooden hammer-action keyboard with balance pins and let-off mechanism.
The CA501 is quite simply one of the best digital pianos in its price category and is ideal for beginner and more advanced pianists.
Shigeru SK-EX Competition Grand
Incorporating the new SK-EX Competition Grand piano sound, reproduced using Harmonic Imaging XL sound technology, the CA501’s core piano voice is the same as that found on the flagship CA-901 model. This latest recreation of the flagship Shigeru Kawai piano uses all new sample data, specifically recorded from the player’s perspective, and is characterised by a bright and clear sound with a distinctive attack.
The CA501 is also fitted with diffuser panels mounted to the top-facing speakers that help to expand tonal projection in all directions. This means the instrument sounds great wherever it is located in the room for both the listener and the player.
Grand Feel Compact wooden-key keyboard
Along with the sound, the keyboard mechanism is a very important consideration when choosing a new digital piano. The Kawai CA501 delivers in this department with the Grand Feel Compact 88-Key wooden keyboard. Other digital pianos may have wooden keys (or a hybrid combination of natural wood and synthetic parts), but the long-stick wood keys in Kawai’s Grand Feel keyboards sit on balance pins to create a see-saw motion which is the same design as would be found in a traditional acoustic piano and allows the player to give the ultimate expression within their performance.
Extended Range of Sounds & Features
Select from a choice of 45 different sounds covering many musical genres, and use the onboard metronome with 100 rhythm patterns to make practice more enjoyable.
Two voices can be layered together to create even more possibilities, and it is also possible to split the keyboard at any point to play two different voices – one in the upper register and one in the lower.
The built-in 10-song / 2-track recorder has a 90,000-note capacity which is enough for even the most advanced pieces of music. It is also possible to record the piano’s own sound as MP3 or WAV files for sharing online or with friends, music teachers and family.
The piano voices can be adjusted to your own personal taste using the Virtual Technician feature, which gives control over parameters such as voicing, keyboard touch, damper resonance, string resonance, hammer noise, tuning, individual key volume and pedal response. Digital effects, including reverb, chorus, amp simulator, and more, add a professional touch to the overall sound.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Wireless connectivity found in the CA501 has been upgraded over previous models, with Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio components adopting the latest v5 standard to ensure ultra-low latency, improved reliability, and superior sound quality when paired with the latest mobile devices. The CA501 is compatible with Kawai’s own Piano Remote app, which gives you complete control over the instrument’s features using your smart device, and PiaBook Player, which displays the printed score of the built-in music and finger exercises so you can follow the music or play along.
Attractive Cabinet Design
The CA501’s attractive cabinet has also received design refinements, including a taller body, improved pedal positioning and music rest score support pins, which can be raised to hold the pages of thicker notated scores securely in place.
